This course focuses on two core skills for leaders, managers, supervisors and people who assume a leadership role in their work. The skills of listening effectively and giving constructive feedback are basic and essential in working with people and yet they are often undervalued or practised ineffectively. 

This programme will enable participants to understand and practice these skills while applying them to their work context. The programme also focuses on the ability to receive feedback positively and use it to one’s advantage.

  • Why feedback matters in leadership and team performance 
  • The cost of poor or absent feedback 
  • Key definitions: feedback vs criticism vs evaluation 

Part 2: The Psychology of Feedback 

  • Understanding how people react to feedback 
  • Emotional triggers and the fight-or-flight response 
  • Fixed vs growth mindset in receiving feedback 
  • Trust and psychological safety in feedback relationships 

Part 3: Active Listening Skills  

  • The role of listening in effective communication 
  • Levels of listening: passive, selective, attentive, and empathetic 
  • Listening barriers and how to overcome them 

Part 4: Giving Constructive Feedback  

  • The Qualities of Effective Feedback 
  • The SBI (Situation–Behavior–Impact) Model 
  • The AID (Action–Impact–Desired Outcome) Framework 
  • Using "I" language and positive intent 
  • Giving positive and developmental feedback 
  • Role-play activity: Practicing giving feedback in pairs 

Part 5: Receiving Feedback Well  

  • Managing emotional reactions to feedback 
  • Strategies for staying open and non-defensive 
  • Clarifying intent, asking questions, and showing appreciation 
  • Exercise: Practicing receiving feedback using real-life scenarios 

Part 6: Feedback in Practice – Case Study & Group Work  

  • Case study analysis: “Feedback that Backfired” 
  • Small group discussion: What went wrong? What could be done differently?

Part 7: Creating a Feedback Culture
